An internal bypass shock changes damping depending on where it is in its travel, so it stays comfortable in the middle and firms up before it runs out of stroke. That is what separates the HOSS 3.0 package from the standard Bronco setup. Taking the upper control arms with the struts matters, because the HOSS geometry expects them and sourcing them separately later is the expensive half of the job.
